FELICITATION AND FAREWELL CEREMONY FOR MAJOR GENERAL MASK MUHANDIRAM RSP

A felicitation and farewell ceremony for Major General MASK Muhandiram RSP was held at the Regiment Centre on the occasion of his promotion and retirement after completion of 33 years of successful service in Sri Lanka Army.The traditional event unfolded on 04 January 2019 at Regimental Centre, Kuruwita with the participation of a large number of Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks.

Major General Aruna Muhandiram was born on 05 January 1964 and completed his school education from Tholangamuwa Central College, Kegalle. Major General Anura Muhandiram joined the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 17 March 1986 to the Officer Cadet Intake 23. After successful completion of the basic military training, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant on 17 March 1986 and posted to 4th Battalion the Gemunu Watch. He has held many command appointments in unit line such as Platoon Commander, Company Commander and Second in Command. He has Commanded the prestigious 1th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch from 21 January 2005 to 05 January 2007

During his tour of duty, he has achieved qualifications from both local and overseas and the few of foreign courses are mentioned bellow:

  • Junior Command Course – India

  • Senior Command Course – India

  • Managing Defence in Wider Security Context Course – United Kingdom

  • MPAT Tempest Express Planning Work Shop – Singapore

  • Pre Deployment Recce in Mali

Further, Major General Anura Muhandiram has immensely contributed to the Army with his proficiency in both Command and Staff aspects. He had proved himself as an icon of excellence by holding some of the key Command, Staff and Instructional appointments in his military career as mentioned below.

Command Appointments:

  • Commanding Officer - 1 GW

  • Commander - 212 Brigade

  • Commander - 541 Brigade

  • GOC - 55 Division

Staff Appointments:

  • Staff Officer 2 - Directorate of Movement - AHQ

  • General Staff Officer 1 – 11 Division

  • Colonel General Staff – 59 Division

  • Principle Staff Officer – HQ SLAVF

  • Brigadier General Staff – Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna)

  • Director of Operations – AHQ

Instructional Appointments:

  • Officer Instructor- Sri Lanka Military Academy

  • Commandant - Combat Training School, Ampara

Centre Commandant, Brigadier K Prematillake RWP RSP welcomed the Chief Gust and invited to review the Guard turnout at the entrance and accompanied to receive the salute of the proud, dignified military parade. Then, the ceremonial commemoration for fallen war heroes at the monument was taken place to make the event more traditional.

All Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment Centre extended their heartfelt gratitude to distinguished Senior Officer for his commitment and dedication to the Gemunu Watch and wished for a healthy, wealthy, peaceful and prosperous life.

Then the Chief Gust was accompanied to the lunch arranged at the Officers’ Mess. A special memento was presented to Major General MASK Muhandiram RSP by Colonel of the Regiment, Major General KPA Jayasekera WWV RSP USP ndc psc – Commander, Security Forces East in appreciation of his dedicated and committed service rendered to the Regiment.
