ELICITATION CEREMONY FOR MAJOR GENERAL A A Koddippily RWP RSP ndc

A felicitation ceremony was held to express congratulations and respect for Major General A A Koddippily RWP RSP ndc who was promoted recently to the rank of Major General in his career as Gemunu Officer. The customary event unfolded on 24th June 2017 at Regimental Headquarters premises, Kuruwita with the participation of a large number of senior officers, officers and other ranks. Major General AA Koddippily RWP RSP ndc was received by the Centre Commandant, at the main entrance and accorded with the Guard Turnout. Thereafter the Parade, presented by Gemunu Watch troops saluted Major General AA Koddippily RWP RSP ndc at the parade ground. The charming but the proud and dignified military parade was reviewed by the newly promoted Major General, accompanied by the Parade Commander together with Centre Commandant in accordance with military traditions. Addressing troops, Major General AA Koddippily RWP RSP ndc extended his sincere gratitude to all past and present senior officers, officers and men of the Regiment for paving way for his today’s success which was filled with many moments of difficulties and happiness. Concluding his remarks, he assured that they will be the strength that the Regiment is expected out of all Highlanders whilst expressing his utmost concern over immaculate arrangements made to share his success. The occasion was marked with a Tea at the Auditorium, where Chief Guests were greeted by Madam Shavini Koddippily, daughter Shasha and Anuki and all relatives as the special invitees, senior officers, officers and men witnessed the occasion. The day’s proceedings were culminated with the lunch offered at the Officers’ Mess. To marks the occasions on behalf of all senior officers, officers and men of the Gemunu Regiment, the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General WBDP Fernando RWP RSP USP psc presented a memento to Major General AA Koddippily RWP RSP ndc and extended the best wishes of the Regiment. Major General AA Koddippily RWP RSP ndc is a proud product of St. Thomas Collage Bandarawela and Uva MahaVidyalaya,Badulla. After successfully completing his studies, he joined the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force in 1985. Having achieved successful completion of the basic military training, he was commissioned in the rank of second lieutenant and was posted to the prestigious 1st Battalion the Gemunu Watch. After he held many appointments varying from Platoon Commander, Company Commander and 2nd in Command, Commanding Officer of 6th Battalion the Gemunu Watch. During a long tour of duty, he held many command and staff appointments in varying formations. Some of them are Staff Officer -1, Directorate of Psychological Operations, Staff Officer I- 211 Brigade, General Staff Officer I- Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna), Commander 512,533,224,554 Brigades, Commander, Special Force Brigade and Commanding Officer of the 8th Sri Lanka Army contingent on UN Peace Keeping Mission in 2008. Moreover, he has privileged to command three infantry divisions, namely 64,23 and 62 Divisions. Major General AA Koddippily RWP RSP ndc presently holding appointment of the Commandant – Army Training School, Maduru Oya. In his long tour of duty, he obtained a number of qualifications from both local and overseas academia. A few of the foreign courses of training that he followed are Young Officer Course – India, Junior Comd Course – India, Battalion Comd Course –Pakistan, Post Graduate in National Security- National Defence College Philippine and he represented Sri Lanka at the 31st International Conference of the International Committee of Red Cross. “Tarry Not Forward”
