A farewell ceremony for Major General HPNK Jayapathirane RSP, Commander Security Force (Central), and Colonel of the Regiment of Gemunu Watch (GW) was held at the Regiment Centre on 23 and 25 February 2021 to mark his retirement after completion nearly 35 years of service in Sri Lanka Army. Farewell Ceremony was consisted with ceremonial commemoration for fallen war heroes at the monument, Group photograph with regimental staff officers and Troop address. Further, a Guard turnout at the main entrance and accompanied to take the salute of the Gemunu Watch Guard of Honour parade. Then the Chief Gust was accompanied to the Lunch at the Officers’ Mess, all Officers of the Gemunu Watch extended the deep sense of gratitude and appreciation of the service of Major General HPNK Jayapathirane RSP.
Major General HPNK Jayapathirane RSP is a proud product of the Bandarawela Central College. He joined the Sri Lanka Army on 16 January 1986 with Intake SSC - 09 and was trained at Kotelawala Defence Academy and Sri Lanka Military Academy- Diyatalawa. He was commissioned on 20 September 1986 and posted to 1st Battalion of the Gemunu Watch.
He has held many Command Staff and Instructor appointments in unit lines, various formations and Army headquarters as well. Some of the key appointments are, Platoon Commander, Company Commander of 1st Battalion of the Gemunu Watch and Commanding Officer of MSTS-Diyatalawa, Second in Command of 8th Battalion of the Gemunu watch and Commanding Officer of 11th battalion of the Gemunu Watch, Adjutant of RHQ –GW, GSO 2 (Ops/Trg) -11 Div, Comdt- MSTS, Comdt- E/EX PT(OMANTHEI),Snr Staff Offr-Area HQ (HBT/YALA), Comd- 592 Bde,233 Bde,522 Bde, Commanding Officer UNPKO battalion in Haiti, Main Coordinator of Urban Development Department, Comdt of IOPOST- Kukulegaga, Brig (GS)-SFHQ(W),GOC 21-Div and at last he held the appointment of Commander SF (Central).
Further, Major General HPNK Jayapathirane RSP has followed many training courses both local and abroad in his military career. Pl Comd Course Minneriya, Sniper Course – Diyatalawa, Young Officers’ Course - India, Junior Command Course- India, Unit Command Course- India, Regimental Signal Officer Course. Basic Marksmanship course–Diyatalawa, Information Technology Course, United Nation multipurpose course in Bangladesh and Defence Staff College –Netherlands are few of those.
All Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment Centre extended their heartfelt gratitude to distinguished outgoing Highlander for his commitment and dedication to the Gemunu Watch and wished him for a healthy, wealthy, peaceful and prosperous life.
