COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT MAJOR GENERAL BVDP ABENAYAKE USP ndu ACCORDED MILITARY SALUTE DURING RETIREMENT CEREOMONY

A farewell ceremony for Major General BVDP Abeynayake USP ndu, Commander Security Force (West), and Colonel of the Regiment of Gemunu Watch (GW) was held at the Regiment Centre on 10 December 2020 his retirement after completion over 35 years of service in Sri Lanka Army.

Major General Chula Abeynayake was born on 11 December 1965and he is a proud product of the Bandaranayake Central College, Gampaha. He joined the Sri Lanka Army on 31 October 1985 with Intake 22. He was trained at Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa and commissioned on 24July 1986 and Subsequently posted to 4th Battalion the Gemunu Watch.

Major General Chula Abeynayake has followed number of Local & foreign courses in his military career. Few of the important Courses are Young Officer Course -India, Junior Command Course -India, Unit Command Course - Pakistan, Defence Orientation Course - Netherland and Defence Strategic Course - China.

Major General Chula Abeynayake had immensely contributed to the Army with his proficiency and he had proved himself as an icon of excellence by holding many Command, Staff and Instructional appointments in his military career. Some of those are Platoon Commander, Coy Comd - 4 GW, Tp Comd - KDA, 2 IC - 8 GW, Acting CO - 8 GW, 2 IC - 4/12 GW, CO - 6/8 GW, Sector Comd - OCC, Col GS - 22 Div, Comd– 225Bde, Comd–572Bde, Comd - 631 Bde, Comdt – CTS, GOC - 51 Div, D Plans - AHQ, Director Youth Corps, GOC - 23 Div, GOC - 14 Div, AG - AHQ and finally Comd - SF (West).

Maj Gen BVDP Abeynayake USP ndu was awarded with Uttama Seva Padakkama (USP) for his 35 years of unblemished military career. In addition, he has been awarded with military decoration such as, North Humanitarian Operation medal, East Humanitarian Operation medal, North and East Operation medal, Rivirasa Campaigning medal, Purna Bhumi Medal, 50th Independence Anniversary Medal, Sri Lanka Army 50th Anniversary medal, Sri Lanka Armed Service Long Service Medal, Sevabimani Medal and Seva Medal for his glorious military service in various capacities.

Centre Commandant, Brigadier JMRNK Jayamanna RWP welcomed the Chief Guest and invited to review the Guard turnout at the main entrance and accompanied to the salute of the proud, dignified military parade. Then, the ceremonial commemoration for fallen war heroes at the monument was taken place.

All Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment Centre extended their heartfelt gratitude to distinguished outgoing Highlander for his commitment and dedication to the Gemunu Watch and wished him for a healthy, wealthy, peaceful and prosperous life.

Then the Chief Gust was accompanied to the dinner at the Officers’ Mess. Major General HPNK Jayapathirane RSP, Commander Security Force (Central), and all Officers of the Gemunu Watch extended the deep sense of gratitude and appreciation of the service of Major General Chula Abeynayake.

A special menento was presented to Major General Chula Abeynayake by the newly appointed Colonel of the Regiment, Major General HPNK Jayapathirane RSP in appreciating of dedicated services rendered to the Regiment.
