Brigadier AGSM Perera RWP RSP USP of the Gemunu Watch, who had been serving as the Brigade Commander of the Airmobile Brigade, unexpectedly passed away on 14 November 2023. He was 53 years old at the time of his untimely death.
Brigadier Sanjeewa Perera was born on 27 May 1970 in Kandy and received his primary and secondary education from Kingswood College, where he excelled in academics and sports. After completing his school education, he joined the Sri Lanka Army on 24 July 1992 as an Officer Cadet and underwent basic military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 09 April 1994 and was posted to the Gemunu Watch. Through his dedication and commitment, he was promoted to the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain, and Major respectively. He continued to demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities and was promoted to the ranks of Lieutenant Colonel on 24 July 2010, Colonel on 24 July 2018, and Brigadier on 10 October 2022.
During his tour of duty, he followed many local and foreign courses and he held numerous Command, Staff and Instructional appointments in different capacities whilst displaying a high degree of professionalism and utmost commitment. His integrity and honesty were highly regarded by his superiors and subordinates. Throughout his 31-year military career, he served the Sri Lanka Army and the country with unwavering dedication and commitment as an officer and a gentleman. His exemplary service to ‘The Gemunu Watch’ and the ‘Army’ as a whole will be remembered indefinitely.
The last rites of Brigadier AGSM Perera RWP RSP USP will be held at 1600 hours on 17 November 2023 at Borella General Cemetery, with full military honours. The Commander of the Army and all Ranks join the family members to share their sorrow at the moment of grief.
