The 9th Inter-Battalion Athletics meet of the Gemunu Watch which was scheduled to be held at the Seewali MMV ground on 17,18 & 19 June 2013, had to be postponed due to bad weather. It was subsequently, held on the 18th & 19th of June at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksha stadium.\r\n\r\nApproximately 500 athletes from 25 Battalions participated. All events were worked out over two days. The final events and the closing ceremony were held in the distinguished presence of the Chief Guest and Colonel of the Regiment, Major General L B R Mark RSP, USP, ndu on 19th of June. Senior Officers of the Gemunu Watch, Commanding Officers of the Battalions, Other Officers and Other Ranks of GW graced the occasion.\r\n\r\n The 6th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch won the Championships for the 3rd consecutive year aggregating 180 points and was awarded the Colonel of the Regiment trophy from the Chief Guest. 11 GW won the Runners-up trophy from the Chief Guest securing 116 points.\r\n\r\n8 GW, 10 (V) GW and 4 GW secured the 3rd ,4th & 5th places respectively. S/418299 L/Cpl Sachith AWR of 6 GW won the ‘Best Athlete’ trophy and the Best Performance trophy in field events from the Chief Guest for his achievement in the long jump clearing a distance of 7.16 m. S/425473 L/Cpl Dissanayake DMS of 6 GW was awarded the ‘Best Performance’ trophy in track events from the Chief Guest for his achievement in the 800m, with a time of 1mn 55.3 secs\r\n
