29TH REGIMENTAL DAY OF THE GEMUNU WATCH

The Gemunu Watch proudly celebrated the 29th anniversary on 19 March 2017. In celebration of the anniversary a series of programmes were launched with the participation and the directions of Major General PUS Vithanage RSP ndu, the Colonel of the Regiment. The 29th Regimental Day of the Gemunu Watch was celebrated with observing multi religious observance; namely the flags were taken to the Sabaragamuwa Maha Saman Dewalaya, Hindu/Mosque/Church at Rathnapura to invoke blessing to the Regiment on 17, 18 March 2017. In addition, the Regiment were organized alms giving to the fifteen Maha Sanga at Edandawala Temple followed by Bodipoojawa at Temple of Regimental Centre. To mark the Regimental Day, Guard turn out followed by a parade was accorded to the Colonel of the Regiment Major General PUS Vithanage RSP ndu . Then floral tribute was conducted at the war commemorate at the monument to remember all fallen heroes as a mark to respect their sacrifice. Afterwards the Gemunu Regiment Swimming Pool was re-opened as renaming \"Lieutenant General PSB Kulatunga Memorial Swimming Pool\" to honour late Lieutenant General PSB Kulathunga RSP USP USAWC. In addition to All Rank Tea was organized at newly open swimming pool complex. Furthermore the newly renovate General T I Weerathunga Memorial museum, the newly constructed Holiday Bungalow at Warrant Officers and Sergeant Mess, the newly renovated Library were declared open by the Colonel of the Regiment. To conclude the commemoration proceedings all ranks lunch was held at the Regimental OR’s Mess with the participation of Colonel of Regiment including senior officers and other ranks. Lastly, in line with the Regimental Day the Regimental Council Meeting was held at Regimental Headquarter Conference Hall. To grace this occasion all senior officers of the Gemunu Watch, staff officers of the regiment centre and other ranks were participated.
