Major General Wajira Welagedara of the Gemunu Watch Regiment assumed duties as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 24 Division amid religious blessings at the 24 Division Headquarters in Malwatte, Ampara on Monday (03).
The newly-appointed General Officer Commanding was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers and honoured in a Guard turnout. Afterwards, the new GOC signed a formal document at the auspicious minute and symbolized the official acceptance of the new appointment.
Furthermore, an all rank tea, planting of a sapling and the formal address to the Officers, and Other Ranks were among the day’s proceedings. Brigade Commanders, Colonel General Staff and Colonel Administration & Quartering with Division Hq Staff, Commanding Officers and under command Unit troops participated in the occasion.
He succeeded Major General Saliya Amunugama who has now been appointed as General Officer Commanding of the 22 Division.
