The Battalion had its origins in Gajasinhapura and was raised on 16th. April 2009 as a Reinforcement Battalion. Lieut. Colonel. S. Kasthurimudali RSP psc was the new Battalion’s first Commanding Officer. On 20th. September 2010, this Battalion was converted into 27 Bn, the Gemunu Watch.
This Battalion too was involved in the Governments programme for the Resettlement and Rehabilitation of IDP’s and surrendees of the LTTE.
On 25th. February 2012 the Battalion was dissolved conforming to the restructuring undertaken by the Army. Officers and Other Ranks of the Battalion were absorbed into 11 GW and 25 GW.
