This Battalion was raised on 31st. January 2009 in IIlukkegama, Kekirawa and Lieut. Colonel. T.C.G. Ganepola became the first Commanding Officer of the Battalion.
The Battalion since its inception has been involved in the Rehabilitation and Resettlement programme of the Government for IDP’s and LTTE Surrendees.
On 25th. April 2012, this Battalion was made defunct on the orders of Army Headquarters. Officers and Other Ranks of the Battalion were absorbed into 7 GW and 19 GW.
