The Battalion was raised on 1st May 2009 at the Security Forces Headquarters [Wanni] Region. Major. M.A.S.P. Gunasena was the Unit first Commanding Officer.
The Battalion was involved mainly in Rehabilitation and Resettlement Duties in connection with the Internally Displaced Persons.
Presently, The Battalion is deployed in Talaimannar Area under 543 BDE of 54 DIV.
