15th Volunteer Battalion The Gemunu Watch

15 [V] GW was raised on 1st. December 2007 at the Regimental Centre of the Gemunu Watch in Kuruwita. Lieut. Colonel. U.T. Subasinghe psc; became the first Commanding Officer of this Unit.

Officers and Other Ranks of other Volunteer Battalions of the Gemunu Watch such as 2[V] GW, 3 [V] GW, 10 [V] GW, and 14 [V] GW, were posted to 15 [V] GW during its formation.

Since its inception, the Unit was heavily involved in combat operations designed to eradicate Tamil Militancy. 15 [V] GW was also mandated to restoring normality in areas devastated by natural disasters and calamities. One soldier was KIA and 01 Officer and 02 Other Ranks were WIA.

ANNIVERSARY

The 15th (V) Battalion the Gemunu Watch has been raised in collaboration with the Officers and Other Rankers from 2,3,10 and 14 (V) GW on 1st December 2007 at RHQ GW Kuruwita. The Battalion commemorates 9th Anniversary on 1st December 2016 at Battalion Headquarters - Mannar.
