NOCPCO TF Members on 'COVID-19' Evaluate New Developments with Experts

One more session of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Task Force on COVID-19 got underway this afternoon (13) at the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), co-chaired by Head of the NOCPCO, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army and Medical Specialist, Dr Anil Jasinghe, Director General of Health Services, together with a handful of experts and other stakeholders.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva welcomed the members of the NOCPCO Task Force and guests at first and stated that the purpose of the meeting was to re-visit the updates, new clusters and the present status of the epidemic in the country. He commented on the continued conduct of PCR tests, quarantine centres, arrivals of expatriates, isolation work of associates, current developments in Kandakadu and well-being of the public in society as well as measures still being implemented to prevent any further spread.

The gathering discussed the re -start of repatriation of expatriates to the motherland with proper strategy in place and without allowing them to exercise influence for possible expansion of the epidemic while measures are being launched to arrest the control of the virus by all stakeholders. Afterwards, experts in the TF shared views on different aspects of the pandemic in parallel to developments in the region and elsewhere.

Dr Anurudda Padeniya expressed satisfaction on the rate of PCR tests being performed in society, but highlighted the need for further increase of the tests, enabling to achieve results in less time. Discussions also explored possibilities of the Zonal Lockdown Systems as recommended by the WHO considering different socio-cultural environments.
