The routine Media interaction at the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) at Rajagiriya took place this evening (22), headed by Mrs Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Hon Minister of Health, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, and Medical Specialist Dr Anil Jasinghe, Director General of Health Services. Summarized account of the Head of the NOCPCO's inputs is as follows:
"A total number of 106 passengers, including 82 Army, Navy and Air Force personnel attending training courses in Pakistan were flown back from Lahore airport last evening (21) by Flight UL 1206. After completion of their courses, they have remained in Pakistan for more than a month. Those 24 out of 106 were students from Sri Lanka who had gone for higher studies. Arrangements were made to refer all of them to QCs upon their return for necessary quarantine process. Those Army, Air Force persons and other civilians were referred for quarantine process in Army QCs and Navy persons are to be quarantined in Navy QCs.
Yesterday, we referred more individuals, all of them being close associates, earlier confirmed positive for COVID-19 to QCs. They were sent to Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Palaly, and Iranamadu Army QCs for quarantine process.
Up-to-date, 4348 personnel after completion of quarantining in tri service-managed Quarantine Centers have left for homes. As of today, 2690 individuals are still undergoing the quarantine process in 26 QCs.
Today, we found 23 more COVID-19 positive patients, all of them being close associates of the contaminated fish trader found from Piliyandala. So far, the Health Department and the Navy have conducted PCR tests on personnel working in the area. A large consignment of vegetables donated to the Army for free distribution among the poor by the donors at the Dambulla Special Economic Cente were distributed among low-income families living in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara and Puttalam districts yesterday and today."
