Troops of the 112 Brigade and the 3 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment camp in Nuwara Eliya handed over the converted Town Hall building at Nuwara Eliya to the health authorities on Monday (17), expected to serve as an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) in the event of any surge in the number of infectees of COVID-19 in the region.
Troops within 4 days converted the building in consultation with health authorities.
The ICC with 500 beds was made a reality with the support of the Mayor, Health officials and workers at Nuwara Eliya in coordination with the Commander, Security Forces - Central who guided the troops to perform the demanding task.
Troops completed the project as per guidelines given by the Regional Director of Health Services and the District Coordinator for Nuwara Eliya, Major General Ranjan Lamahewa, Commander, Security Forces-Central.
All under command establishments of the SFHQ-Central and health authorities provided required beds, mattresses, pillows, linen, and other essentials for its smooth operation. This ICC conversion process started on the directions of the Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army with the cooperation of the General Officer Commanding, 11 Division & the 112 Brigade Commander's coordination.
3 SLSR troops in Nuwara Eliya in addition provided all electrical and wiring needs of the new ICC.
District Secretary for Nuwara Eliya , Mr Nandana Galaboda , Regional Director of Health Services and the District Coordinator for Nuwara Eliya, Major General Ranjan Lamahewa Commander Security Forces-Central, Mayor Nuwara Eliya, Regional Engineer - Dr Madura Senevirathne, few senior military Officers,Officers and Other Ranks graced the formal handover ceremony.
