Troops-converted Siddi Ayurveda Hospital in Vavuniya to serve as a new Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) for COVID-19 patients which has a capacity of 100 beds and vested it in health authorities on Wednesday (16) after initiative to this effect was taken by Major General Nandana Dunuwila, General Officer Commanding, 56 Division.
Dr Sarvanandan and administrative staff at Ayurveda Hospital supported the project and made it available to Army authorities for conversion of the place where 100 patients can be accommodated.
General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, the brainchild behind enhancing of the bed capacity and ICCs in line with the sudden increase of infected ones around the county, instructed Major General Hemantha Bandara, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni to take prompt action for the conversion of this hospital for treatment of patients within a few days.
This new converted ICC at Siddi Ayurveda Hospital can accommodate 100 patients and is equipped with all medical facilities. Major General Hemantha Bandara Commander Security Forces - Wanni formally handed over the ICC to Regional Director Health Services (RDHS). Troops of 56 Division with Health authorities threw their weight behind realization of the project on 16 June 2021.
Major General Nandana Dunuwila, General Officer Commanding, 56 Division and Brigadier Senaka Premawansa, Commander 562 Brigade closely supervised the troops until the completion of the task. For the renovation process, Regional Director of Health Services (RDHS) provided raw materials while the Army provided beds, mattresses, bed sheets, pillows, pillowcases, mosquito nets, chairs, washing machines, water boilers and linen.
A few members of hospital and military officers attended the formal handover occasion.
