Troops of the 613 Brigade of the 61 Division took steps to convert a ward in the Ayurvedic hospital in Aparekka to serve as an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) in the event of any surge in the number of infectees of COVID-19 in the region. The converted ICC began its operations on Tuesday (31).
It was the troops of 3 (V) Gemunu Watch under the supervision of Brigadier Upul Kodithuwakku, Commander 613 Brigade who improvised the ward to serve as an ICC.
General Shavendra Silva, Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, the brainchild behind enhancing of the bed capacity and ICCs in line with the sudden increase of infected ones around the county, instructed Major General Dammi Hewage, General Officer Commanding 61 Division to take prompt action for the conversion of this centre for an ICC within a couple of days.
