Professionals Volunteer to Make Presentations on Arrest of COVID-19 at NOCPCO

The National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), headed by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army at Rajagiriya continues to receive voluntary professional know-how and technical inputs from a wide variety of scholars and university dons who are prepared to extend their support to the government's fighting mechanism against the eradication of COVID-19 pandemic from Sri Lanka.

One more round of the NOCPCO Task Force meeting held this afternoon (10) co-chaired by Mrs Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Minister of Health and Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva saw Dr Chandra Kuruluratne, a veteran in Community Medicine with foreign experience in Singapore and Dr L.P. S Rohitha, a Senior Lecturer on Engineering at University of Moratuwa present separate submissions on 'Rapid Mobile Screening/Testing Facilities' and 'Prevention of Non-Medical Treatment Methods of COVID-19' respectively for discussion.

Afterwards, another group of six professors, including Prof Janaka de Silva of University of Kelaniya, Prof Sarath Lekamwasam of University of Ruhuna, Prof H. A. M Kularatne of University of Peradeniya, Prof Sisira Siribaddana of Rajarata University, Prof Saroj Jayasinghe of University of Colombo and Prof Kamani Wanigasuriya of Sri Jayawardenepura University jointly submitted a presentation on 'COVID-19 Lock-down in Sri Lanka: Towards an Exit Strategy' where multifaceted concerns were discussed with special focus on social, economic and cultural repercussions, arising out of such stringent measures and resolution of pressing issues, related to day-to-day needs and social fabric of the masses. Another presentation, made by Mr Sanjeewa Weerawardene spoke on the ongoing 'Action Plan/ IT Tracking Strategy' during this meeting attended by representatives in the NOCPCO Task Force and Dr Anil Jasinghe, Director General Health Services.
