Private Hospitals' Possibilities for Conduct of PCR Tests for COVID-19 Discussed

Possibilities for enhancement of the capacity for conduct of PCR tests for COVID-19 in the country were taken up for extensive discussion and evaluation this morning (23) at the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) at Rajagiriya.

The discussion was co-chaired by Hon Minister of Health, Mrs Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Head of the NOCPCO Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva who is also the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army and the Medical Specialist Dr Anil Jasingha, Director General of Health Services.

Managing representatives of leading private hospitals across Sri Lanka joined the discussion, tabling their views and concerns as regards the enhancement of the capacity of those tests and conduct of those tests inside Quarantine Centres, identified clusters, airports, etc. They also explored ways and means to collect specimens, their passage and other technical issues.

Health Ministry afterwards as a result of those discussions announced to include private hospitals too in carrying out those tests while the raising the number of tests to over 1000 a day.
