Public Health authorities with the support of Policemen and Army troops immediately sealed two villages in Kadayankulam in Puttlam and one in Akurana areas after detection of a few persons, suspicious to have been infected with COVID-19 by late evening on Saturday (28), Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak at Rajagiriya, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army announced.
Accordingly, villagers in Kadayankulum area have been restricted to an improvised self-quarantine centre for two weeks while all roads leading to Akurana have also been sealed in order to prevent movements of the public and further spread of the virus.
A returnee from India, aged 61 years, detected from Akurana and another Puttlam -resident 50 year old returnee from Indonesia have now been admitted to the National Infectious Diseases Hospital (NIDH) at Mulleriyawa for onward medical treatments. In addition, 20 persons in Atulugama, Bandaragama have now been confined to the improvised Quarantine Centre (QC) in the Sarvodaya building after detection of another positive case from Atulugama area, according to Lieutenant General Silva.
