The Army-managed and the Seva Vanitha-organized vaccination project, giving a further boost to the island-wide national vaccination programme on the directive of HE the President this morning (12) inaugurated one more phase by inoculating the country’s teacher community in the Western Province at the Colombo Army Hospital.
The vaccine that could heal the virus that largely affects the vocal trachea and lungs was accordingly jabbed to a few thousands of teachers during this phase by Monday (12) afternoon. The project will envelop all districts within two weeks.
Hon Prof. G.L Peiris, Minister of Education, together with a few Ministers and General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army visited the vaccination location and saw for themselves how Army medical teams were performing their duties.
A few days ago, the Army vaccination drive for educational sector initially commenced after educational managers, teacher trainers, educational administrators and school curriculum experts in the National Institute of Education at Maharagama were vaccinated by Army personnel on a directive given to the Directorate of Preventive Medicine of the Army by General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO.
To witness the inaugural vaccination of teachers, Hon. Susil Premajayantha (MP), State Minister of Education Reforms, Open Universities and Distance Learning Promotion, Hon. (Dr) Mrs Seetha Arambepola (MP), State Minister of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation and Prof K. Kapila Perera, Secretary to Ministry of Education also arrived at the Colombo Army Hospital, together with Hon Minister of Education.
During today’s vaccination at the Colombo Army Hospital, the first dose of Sinopharm was administered to teachers and other staffers in the Colombo Education Zone in the Western Province.
