Now, Army-improvised ICC at Barathipuram for COVID-19 Patients Operational

To be in line with instructions given by General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, the SFHQ-Kilinochchi was among the firsts to convert the Barathipuram Quarantine Centre to serve as an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) with all emergency hospital facilities and a team of medical professionals.

The Army-improvised ICC was initiated within a few days under the close supervision of Major General Harendra Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces Kilinochchi in order to provide a coordinated response to the present 3rd wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthening the capacity of the health care system by accommodating and isolating positive cases. The Kilinochchi ICC was made operational beginning Thursday (6) in the presence of the Kilinochchi Commander and a few Health authorities.

During the inauguration, he inquired into needs for further improvement and had a chat with the medical staff as regards its operational and supporting roles.

Regional Director of Health Services Dr R.N Sarvanabawan, Director at Kilinochchi District General Hospital Dr. Sugandan, General Officer Commanding 57 Infantry Division Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, Brigadier Administration and Quartering Brigadier Deepal Hathurusinghe, Commander 571 Brigade Brigadier Dammika Welagedara, Colonel General Staff of the SFHQ (KLN) and other senior officers at the Army Base Hospital in SFHQ (KLN) participated in the opening event.
