NOCPCO Head Inspects Hospital Preparations in Kilinochchi

In the wake of urgent transmission taking place elsewhere in relation to the spread of COVID – 19 pandemic, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID 19 Outbreak, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army with the intention of inspecting the progress of the proposed emergency hospital in Krishnapuram, Kilinochchi visited it and closely watched all aspects of the ongoing project on Saturday (31).

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army on arrival at the main entrance of the Security Forces Headquarters - Kilinochchi was greeted in a drive-past Guard Turnout, presented by 3 Gajaba Regiment troops after he was warmly welcomed by the Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu, Major General Jagath Rathnayake on behalf of Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda, Commander Security Forces, Kilinochchi.

After a while, a conference was held with the Commander Security Forces Mullaittivu, Division Commanders, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area (FMA - KLN) and Brigade Commanders at the Headquarters conference hall.

Afterwards, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army visited the ongoing construction site of the hospital complex at Krishapuram, Kilinochchi with all Senior Officers and the construction team. The aim of this hospital is to treat COVID - 19 patients and the construction is carried out with the support of the MOH Kilinochchi.

Later, the Commander of the Army addressed all Officers and Other Ranks of the Security Forces Kilinochchi at Nelumpiyasa Auditorium.

Commenting on COVID-19 epidemic, the visiting Commander of the Army told the gathering that the Army, like in many other areas, has the pride of running the most number of Quarantine Centres in the country undertaking the challenge of this task at the request of HE the President.

“It is our bounden duty to take all preventive measures against the transmission of this pandemic among us as the most disciplined members of the Security Forces. That is why the Army was able to manage the situation with all precautions. I expect all of you to continue this alertness to the virus and behave accordingly in line with health guidelines, already issued to you,” Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva added.

General Officers Commanding, Commander, Forward Maintenance area, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers and Officers were associated with the Commander’s itinerary in Kilinochchi.
