Troops of the 112 Brigade and the 23 Gajaba Regiment, 3 Sri Lanka National Guard and 10 (V) Corps of Engineer Services took steps to convert one ward at Nakulugama Divisional Hospital to serve as an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) in the event of any surge in the number of infectees of COVID-19 in the region and formally made it operational from Tuesday (18) onwards.
Meanwhile, troops of the 121 Brigade and the 18 Gemunu Watch-improvised one ward at Buttala Divisional Hospital to serve as an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) and enabled it to be functional from Monday (17) onwards in case of any emergency.
Those ICCs were made a reality with the support of Health officials, District/Divisional Secretaries and workers in hospitals in coordination with the Commander, Security Forces - Central in order to accommodate more virus victims for treatment in the event of any sudden upsurge in numbers. Major General Ranjan Lamahewa, Commander, Security Forces-Central closely supervised those improvisations.
This conversion of ICCs started on the directions of the Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army with the cooperation of Major General Prasanna Ranawaka, General Officer Commanding, 12 Division, Brigadier Janaka Pallekumbura, Commander, 112 Brigade and through coordination of Brigadier Udaya Serasinghe, Commander 121 Brigade.
