Leave of Tri Service Personnel Cancelled Until Further Notice - Head of NOCPCO

The routine Media interaction at the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) at Rajagiriya took place this afternoon (26), headed by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army and Attorney-at Law Ajith Rohana, Deputy Inspector General of Police.

“113 More Sri Lankans including Navy officers, state officials and students who were in India were brought down to Colombo this evening (26) from Coimbatore in India. All of them were sent to Army & Navy-managed Quarantine Centres for observation.

In future too, the government plans to bring down overseas-based expatriates who have gone for higher education.

Up to date (26), 4507 Quarantined individuals have returned to their homes after completion of the quarantine process.

Meanwhile, 116 who arrived yesterday (25) from Mumbai, India were referred to the Quarantine Centres, managed by Army and Navy personnel.

As of today, 3053 individuals are still undergoing quarantine process at 33 Quarantine Centres.

Today, up to now we found 11 positive cases. From those 11, one case was from Kandakadu Quarantine Centre and other 10 naval personnel were from the Welisara Navy camp who were on leave. Accordingly, the total of 95 positive cases found among Navy personnel were made up from 68 from Welisara Navy camp and 27 sailors who were on leave.

Further, a Navy officer passed away due to leptospirosis whilst under treatment in Welisara Naval hospital yesterday (25). At the post-mortem, it was confirmed that the cause of his death was leptospirosis and his funeral was to be held today.

Meanwhile, leave of all tri forces have been cancelled from today (26) until further notice. Furthermore, those on leave are informed to report back to the camps and bases. They will be provided transport facilities to report back to their respective locations by tri forces.

In the meantime, many PCR tests were conducted at the Welisara naval base and the results of those tests are expected this evening. At the same time general public from Anuradhapura and Kurunegala districts appear to be very much disturbed following visits that have been made by some of the Welisara sailors to their areas were confirmed positive afterwards.

At the same time, according to the procedures, if any positive person was found having contacted his associates, those persons will be allowed to be in self-quarantine or would be sent to the Quarantine Centres. Likewise, the relatives of sailors who got infected and their associates still in self quarantine will continue to be further monitored”, so said Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva.
