HE Gopal Baglay, High Commissioner of India for Sri Lanka arrived at the Colombo Army Hospital at Narahenpita this morning (01) and received his COVID-19 vaccine in the presence of the Principal Presidential Adviser Mr Lalith Weerathunge and General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).
The Indian High Commissioner, together with the Defence Advisor Captain Vikas Sood at first saw himself how the vaccination project was on at the hospital and shared a few thoughts with the Army medical team at work. Together with the High Commissioner, Mr Lalith Weeratunge also got the vaccination at the same location.
General Shavendra Silva complimented the High Commissioner on India's generosity in rushing the stock of vaccines to Sri Lanka at the invitation of HE the President which symbolizes the goodwill and sound neighbourly relations that prevail between both countries and admitted that timely inoculation of frontline troops and health workers has immensely benefited the control efforts of all stakeholders.
Members of the clergy, Hon Speaker of Parliament, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene, Members of Parliament and all service personnel working as frontline health workers are being facilitated to receive the vaccine at the Colombo Army Hospital.
Captain Vikas Sood Defence Advisor of the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka, Brigadier Krishantha Fernando, Director General Army Health Services, Colonel Champaka Attanayake, Hospital Director, Colonel Saveen Semage, Deputy Director at Sri Lanka Army Preventive Medical Services and a few Senior Officers were present at the location.
