All measures to arrest transmission and prevention of COVID-19 virus in the country are being adopted by health sector officials and members of the tri services, led by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, states a statement issued by the NOCPCO.
A total of 231 individuals upon completion of quarantine process at tri service-managed ITUM -Diyagama (158), Sport Complex - Diyagama (01), Punanai (18), Kundasale (32) and Pallekele (14) and Nipuna Boossa (8) Quarantine Centres left for their native places after conduct of PCR tests today (31) with Quarantine Certificates.
By today (31), a total of 11,483 quarantined individuals from tri service-managed QCs have left for their homes. As of now, 5,087 persons are still in quarantine in 46 island-wide QCs, run by tri services. Heroic Tri service personnel on duty at the Colombo International Airport are intermittently subjected to PCR tests and accordingly an Army Lieutenant Colonel confirmed positive to the COVID-19 virus after PCR tests has been admitted to the IDH Hospital in Mulleriyawa for treatment.
Heroic sailors of the Navy confirmed positive to the COVID-19 virus stands at 750 in total. In the past 24 hours, 25 more sailors were confirmed positive to COVID-19 infection. Of them, 403 after full recovery and PCR tests were discharged from hospitals. A group of 347 infected sailors are still under treatment in hospitals as of now, the statement ended.
