COVID-19 Cluster in Kandakadu Increased to 490- NOCPCO

A Media Release issued by the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) this evening (12) stated as follows:

By this afternoon (12) at 4.00 pm, 94 more COVID-19 positive cases were reported from the Kandakaduu Rehabilitation Centre for Drug Addicts, managed by the Ministry of Justice. Accordingly 429 detainees, out of 829 inmates in the Rehabilitation Centre were confirmed positive to COVID-19 by today (12). A total of 47 staffers out of 312 in the Rehabilitation Centre were also confirmed positive by this afternoon (12).

Likewise, 14 family members and their associates of the infected were confirmed positive to the virus as of this afternoon. Accordingly, a total of 490 individuals associated with that Centre were confirmed positive to the virus.

In addition, by 6.00 am today (12), 4 expatriates from UAE and 1 from Kuwait who were at tri service-managed Quarantine Centres were confirmed positive. The flight QR 668 from Doha with 12 passengers, the flight UL 102 from Maldives and 6 persons from India arrived in Colombo and all of them were referred to Quarantine Centres, managed by tri services.

Upon completion of the quarantine process, 2 quarantined persons from Kuliyapitiya Ruwala Resort, 243 persons from Norochcholai Quarantine Centre, 47 from Ampara CTS Quarantine Centre, 29 individuals from Pompemadu Quarantine Centre and 3 from Boossa Quarantine Centre, 324 in total accordingly left for their homes after PCR tests and with quarantine certificates. A total of 21,655 quarantined persons have left for their homes as of this morning (12) and a total of 6,483 individuals are still in quarantine in island-wide 50 QCs.

895 virus-infected sailors, out of a total of 906 have fully recovered and reported back to their duties by this morning (12). 11 more sailors of the Navy are still under treatment. (Ends)
