All Principal Staff Officers (PSOs), Director General of Army Health Services and Chief Field Engineer of the Army during an emergency meeting, convened on Tuesday (28) afternoon by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army discussed ways and means of getting the best possible facilities to all Army personnel, now confined to self-quarantining upon return after leave at different Army formations across the country.
"We all need to ensure well-being of all those Officers and Other Ranks and members of their families too after those Army personnel had to be kept in separate as a precautionary measure soon after return to their places of work or respective formations while on leave. Considering prevailing constraints, we have to ensure that their families in the absence of their householders are provided with basic requirements, food and other needs by devising an operational mechanism covering all aspects, "the Army Chief told the meeting.
"Since all Army returnees have now been kept in separate, necessary medical monitoring has also to be in place while simultaneously providing them with food and proper accommodation that suit to health guidelines until the completion of the separation period. All have to work closely in order to ensure all Army personnel receive the best attention all the time because of the emergency nature of the circumstances, "he further noted.
All Army personnel reported back in this manner during their stay at specific camps or improvised locations for separation purposes need to understand well that this procedure was meted out on them for their own safety as well as others, the Commander pointed out.
Major General Sathypriya Liyanage, Chief of Staff, Major General Jagath Gunawardene, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force were among a few others who contributed to the discussion at the Army HQ.
