British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka HE Sarah Hulton with a view to receiving an update on the ongoing COVID-19 quarantine process, health condition of British nationals and dual citizens in quarantine, measures being implemented to arrest its transmission, preventive mechanisms, etc called on Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army on Wednesday (25) at the Army Headquarters.
During the bilateral interaction, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva explained the role and tasks that were undertaken by the Armed Forces at the request of HE the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces soon after its serious nature, was assessed at the highest level, and how the Armed Forces went on improvising most essential locations to be Quarantine Centres, beginning with the Kandakadu and Punani ones within hours, if not few days. He also outlined measures that have been implemented in relation to 5 British nationals currently in quarantine in Diyatalawa centres with special focus on their facilities, food varieties, etc, and pointed out how those individuals are allowed home-bound on staggered basis upon completion of the two-week long incubation period.
The diplomat also inquired into the needs of health authorities, pharmaceuticals, medical accessories, etc in Sri Lanka and highlighted the importance of facing this global threat while exchanging each other’s medical expertise, experience and therapeutic measures in order to contain its further spread.
Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva also presented her with numbers in quarantine, locations and facilities available in different Quarantine Centres. Towards the end of the interaction, an exchange of mementoes took place.
