Army Initiative Gets Free Medical Devices to Batticaloa Teaching Hospital

An initiative taken by the 231 Brigade HQ of the 23 Division in Batticaloa resulted in the donation of an assortment of vital medical accessories for use among COVID-19 victims and other patients at Batticaloa Teaching Hospital.

The medical equipment and accessories, inclusive of 2 Mini Centrifuge devices, donated jointly by Director, Aruvi Co and Mrs S. Sutharshini (Addl District Secretary), one High Speed Microliter Centrifuge, donated by Mr V. Nallaratnam, RT PCR Equipment and 2 Viral Nucleic Acid Extractors, donated by Batticaloa Inter Religious Forum, Autoclave and Micropipette devices, donated by Mr S.S Iswaran, H2O2 Fumigator and 70 C Freezer donated jointly by Mr Selvaraja and businessmen, a Heat Block, donated by ESCO and an Electric Sterilizer donated by EHED Co Ltd, were thus symbolically delivered to the Director of Batticaloa Teaching Hospital after the Batticaloa District Coordinating Committee for prevention of COVID - 19 pandemic was over.

The acute need for those medical accessories was brought to the notice of the Commander, 231 Brigade, Brigadier Vijitha Hettiarachchi by hospital authorities during discussions earlier in the month. The formal handover of the stock took place during one more review meeting on COVID-19 pandemic that got underway recently at the Batticaloa District Secretariat presided by Mr. K Karunaharan, District Secretary for Batticaloa.

The same review meet was attended by Major General Nalin Koswatte, General Officer Commanding, 23 Division and Brigadier Vijitha Hettiarachchi, Commander, 231 Brigade under the 23 Division of the Security Force HQ-East.
