Armed Forces Still Man 40 Island-wide Quarantine Centres- Head, NOCPCO

The routine Media interaction at the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) at Rajagiriya took place this afternoon (4), headed by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Medical Specialist Dr Anil Jasinghe, Director General of Health Services and Attorney-at Law Ajith Rohana, Deputy Inspector General of Police.

“A total of 286 quarantined returnees from Katukeliyawa and Kandakadu Quarantine Centres (QCs) and the Air Force-run Iranamadu QC after the two-week long quarantine process, left for their residences this morning (4) after receipt of Quarantine Certificates. With this, a total of 2890 quarantined individuals have so far left those QCs, manned by tri services. As it is now, 37 QCs are manged by the Army, 2 by the Air Force and one by the Navy,” so said Lieutenant General Silva.

“A total of over 3.5 lakhs of pensioners who are senior citizens of this country were facilitated to draw their pensions by providing transport services through the coordination of members of the tri services and respective Grama Seva officials during past three days. As of now, Ataluwagama and Akurana areas continue to be isolated. A group of selected individuals are housed in quarantine at Puttalam Zahira College and another group at Bandaragama Sarvodaya QC for a period of 14 days. Similarly, 20 selected individuals from Jaffna peninsula are still in quarantine,” he added.

Both Dr Anil Jasinghe, Director General of Health Services and Attorney-at Law Ajith Rohana, Deputy Inspector General of Police also commented.
