4000 Sets of Surgical Masks Gifted to Army for Use in Fight against COVID-19

Appreciative of the roles, being performed by hundreds of Army, Navy and Air Force troops in the management of COVID-19 patients in island-wide Quarantine Centres, detection and transport of suspicious individuals risking their own lives, the leading Buddhist scholar, Ven Prof. Medagoda Abhayatissa Nayake Thero, Senior Lecturer at Sri Jayawardenepura University and the Chief Incumbent, Sri Sunethradevi Raja Maha Piriven Viharaya at Pepiliyana on Wednesday (15) gifted a consignment of 4100 plus surgical face masks to Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army who is also the Head at the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

During his interaction with the recipient at the Army Headquarters, Ven Abhayatissa Nayake Thero spoke high of the commitment of the armed forces at this critical hour of our Nation and underlined the need to overcome the challenge as a united family while taking care of the lives of Health workers as well as members of the armed forces, who are actively engaged in the drive against the deadly virus.

Lieutenant General Silva acknowledging the gesture that can be used by service personnel, engaged in COVID-19 prevention work thanked and praised the monk for his thoughtfulness about the safety of the troops attending on those individuals at Quarantine Centres.

Before his exit, the Commander of the Army presented the monk with a replica of a pagoda as a memento.

Two more laities of the temple were also associated with the visit to the Army HQ.
