Lanka Indian Oil Corporation (LIOC) PLC is the Sri Lankan subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC) which is India’s largest government-owned oil and gas company. Indian Oil Corporation Limited itself is a major integrated energy company owned by the Government of India.
The Commandant Army School of Logistics (ASL), Brigadier DIS Jayasinghe ndc psc, the Chief Instructor Colonel MSR Mohamed Lsc, Faculty members and the student officers of Logistics Staff Course 12 (LSC12) undertook a study visit to the Trinco Petroleum Terminal Ltd (TPTL) of LIOC PLC on 05 February 2026 as part of their curriculum to gain practical exposure to large scale logistics, supply chain management and energy sector operations.
The visit was aimed at familiarizing the course participants with the organizational structure, operational framework and logistics management practices of one of India’s largest public sector enterprises functioning in Sri Lanka. Indian Oil Company, being a key player in the national energy supply chain, provided an excellent platform for understanding integrated logistics planning, bunkering, storage, transportation and distribution of petroleum products.
During the visit, the officers were briefed by senior LIOC officials on the company’s role in ensuring energy security, its nationwide logistics network and the use of technology in inventory management, pipeline operations and transportation safety. Emphasis was laid on demand forecasting, coordination between refineries and depots and contingency planning to ensure uninterrupted supply across the country.
The participants were also exposed to safety protocols, quality control measures and environmental management practices adopted by LIOC. Interactions with domain experts enabled meaningful discussions on challenges faced in petroleum logistics, crisis response mechanisms and best practices in handling hazardous materials. The certificate awarding to the participants marked the culmination of the visit and the briefings.
The course participants expressed appreciation to the LIOC officials for their hospitality and insightful briefings. The Commandant ASL and the Vice President (Ops & LBP) of TPTL, Mr. Naveen Kumar exchanged the souvenirs as a token of the long lasting cordiality between the two establishments.
The visit proved to be highly informative and complemented the theoretical knowledge imparted during the LSC. It enhanced the officers’ understanding of real-world logistics operations, inter-agency coordination and strategic planning in a complex and critical sector.
