ARMY SCHOOL OF LOGISTICS COMMENCES LOGISTICS STAFF COURSE NO 8

During the first working day of the year, Army School of Logistics commenced the Logistics Staff Course No 8 on 3 January 2022. This is the flagship course which is conducting at the ASL. The course is scheduled to be terminated on 19 December 2022.

There are 26 Officers from various Regiments including two lady officers of the Sri Lanka Army, two officers from the Sri Lanka Navy including a Lady Officer and two Officers from friendly foreign countries namely, Bangladesh and Nepal attended the opening ceremony held at the ASL auditorium.

The Commandant Brigadier JARSK Jayasekara USP psc, delivered the opening address and warmly welcomed the Student Officers of LSC - 8. He explained the importance of learning Logistics for an Officer, which is needed in improving the future military career as professionals in the field of administration and logistics. He emphasized that dedication, hard work and discipline is needed by the Student Officers for one year to achieve the renowned title “Lsc”. He wished all well for the new year and the days to come.

Next, the Chief Instructor Col YKS Rangika psc gave the history of ASL and briefed about the courses that are conducted by the ASL and the explained the importunacy of Logistics Staff Course for the Student Officers. Further, he explained about the scheduled activities and upcoming events during the course.

Senior Instructor Lt Col JMR Jayasinghe psc Lsc SLEME gave a detailed description of the course curriculum, the duration of each subject and the marks needed to pass and obtain the acronym “Lsc” and MBA in Logistics Management. He further explained the awarding criteria and the evaluation procedures of which a student could pass or fail in the course.

Later, the administration functions and facilities in ASL and their significance specially to the officers from friendly foreign countries and officers from the sister services were explained by the Staff Officer I (AQ) Lt Col KA Ariyawansha psc SLSC.

The Commandant together with Chief Instructor, Senior Instructor, Staff Officer I (A/Q), Members of the Faculty, Members of the Permanent Staff and the Student Officers of LSC - 8 participated in the inauguration ceremony. This followed the Opening Gambit for LSC – 8 to identify their knowledge prior to the course.

In the evening the Student Officers and the faculty members together with the Senior Instructor visited the Gokanna Rajamaha Viharaya and the ancient Hindu Temple Koneswaram, located at Fort Fredrick. It is customary to visit the Student Officers to visit these locations and get the blessings for the course.

Finally, the day came to an end with the Ice Break for the Student Officers and the officers with their families of friendly foreign countries organized by the ASL staff at the Officers’ Mess. The occasion provided an opportunity for the Student Officers to interact with the Directing Staff and to get to know each other. The Commandant Brigadier J A R S K Jayasekara USP psc and his spouse graced the occasion and welcomed Student Officers to the event. It was an enjoyable evening to all and this followed a delicious dinner with Sri Lankan cousin.
