BOOK DONATION PROGRAMME

Seva Vanitha branch of SLSC conducted a book donation programme on Friday 8th November 2024. The event is considered as the main event in the calendar of the Seva Vanitha branch which has been conducted consecutively in the past years.

The programme was held amidst a gathering of schooling children, their parents and the members of the Seva Vanitha branch. The president of the Signal Seva Vanitha branch, Mrs Ganga Herath attended the event as the chief guest.

The programme was started with lighting the traditional oil lamp and observing one minute silence in remembrance of fallen war heroes. 2082 parcels of books were arranged to be donated, and 90 book parcels were symbolically given away among the children of soldiers living in Colombo and nearby areas.

The remaining parcels of books were handed over to the Commanding Officers of the units which are to be distributed under the guidance and supervision of them. The wives of the Commanding Officers were also joined in accepting the remaining book parcels shouldering the responsibility as members of the Signal Seva Vanitha branch.

The event was organized in order to encourage the children of soldiers and civil employees of SLSC in excelling their education, and to support their parents in educating their children. Around 23,000 books worth of Rs. 4,803,063.00 were arranged to be donated according to the grades of the recipients.
