The inauguration ceremony for the modernization of 1,000 schools under the Clean Sri Lanka program was held on 20th February 2025 at 0800hrs at Ilukovita Primary School, Thummodara in the SF (West) Area of Responsibility, with the participation of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General B K G M L Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG.
As part of the Clean Sri Lanka initiative, aimed at creating a student-friendly educational environment and involving schools in the program, the Tri-Forces are providing assistance to selected schools across the country. Under the first phase of this national program, led by the Ministry of Education, modernization activities began at Ilukovita Primary School, the first of 200 schools identified for this phase.
The ceremonial commencement of the development project at Ilukovita Primary School was marked with pride under the supervision of Major General U K D D P Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, the Commander Security Forces (West) and the event as executed by the General Officer Commanding 14 Infantry Division, Major General K J N M P K Nawarathna RWP RSP ndu along with the Commander 142 Infantry Brigade. The Hon. Chandana Sooriyarachchi, Member of Parliament, the Adjutant General, the Director General, General Staff Branch, the Director, Zonal Education Office Homagama, the Assistant Principal, the Secretary of the Alumni Association, Parents, and the Students also witnessed this colourful event.
Following the symbolic foundation stone-laying ceremony for the construction of a new access road to the school, led by the Commander of the Army, the Commander donated cement and electrical equipment to the school as part of the program.
