As part of a key government initiative, the "Clean Sri Lanka Programme" has been introduced into the school system. The first phase of this initiative in 61 Infantry Division area, which aims to be implemented in 11 schools was launched on 20 Feb 2025.
Marking the official launch of the programme, General Officer Commanding 61 Infantry Division Major General K T P De Silva RSP ndu psc participated in the inaugural session of the school level Clean Sri Lanka project at G/Madampa Central College in Ambalangoda. In his address at the inaugural event the General Officer Commanding emphasize the school teachers, parents and students, all those who were present about the objectives of incorporating Clean Sri Lanka programme into the school system. In his speech he further highlighted that a series of activities focusing on sanitation, waste management, and the development of students' behavioral and ethical qualities will be introduced. Sri Lanka Army will it’s fullest support, guidance and the assistance in fulfilling the desired objectives in these nationwide endeavors.
Under this programme, essential repairs will be carried out in schools, including fixing damaged desks and chairs, repairing equipment, and restoring electrical and water supply systems. Additionally, school premises could be cleaned and maintained. The programme is set to cover 83 schools in 61 Infantry Division area by the end of March.
