ASSISTANCE TO IRRIGATION DEPARTMENT IN REPAIRING LEAKAGE OF KANAKARAYANKULAM TANK BUND

Due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions, a section in the middle of the Kanakarayankulam Tank bund was damaged, resulting in a significant water leak. Troops of the 16 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (16 SLSR), with the support of local villagers, promptly undertook restoration work to prevent further deterioration.

The operation was conducted under the close supervision of the Commander, 561 Infantry Brigade, Colonel E G C Gunasena RWP RSP psc, and on the directions of Major General SAUA Solangaarachchi RSP ndc psc, General Officer Commanding, 56 Infantry Division.

A team of 20 soldiers (02 × 10) from 16 SLSR, together with village personnel, installed sandbags at the affected section of the bund to control the leakage. The task was carried out at Grid Reference 709271, in coordination with the Irrigation Department Their timely intervention successfully prevented further damage to the tank bund.

The operation commenced at 11.30 a.m. on 29 November 2025.
