Under the guidance of the Commander Security Forces (Wanni) Major General K M P S B Kulathunga RSP ndu psc, and the supervision of the 21 Division Commander, Major General T N K Perera, along with the direction of the 213 Brigade Commander, Brig B N S B Rangama RSP USP psc, troops of 2 MIR and MITC launched a rescue operation on 28 November 2025.
The mission aimed to rescue a civilian transport bus carrying 56 passengers, including MP Archun and his wife, which had become trapped due to the overflowing Kallaru River. Another 25 civilians who arrived in a Craven, along with personnel in one Army truck and a Navy truck with a diving team, were also assisted.
All civilians were safely escorted to the MITC until water levels receded. Once conditions improved, the 56 passengers were provided with another bus and departed the MITC. The remaining 25 passengers also left the centre today.
Troops involved in the operation included:
• 2 MIR: 3 × 30 personnel
• MITC: 02 × WMZ teams and 03 × 15 personnel
