ARMY TROOPS ASSIST IN RESTORING PARTLY BREACHED PULAWANAR KULAM TANK BUND IN VELLANKULAM, MANNAR DISTRICT DUE TO ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS

Due to the prevailing heavy rainfall this morning, a section of the Purawanar Kulam tank bund sustained damage. In response, the Commander of the 562 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier D M P U Dissanayaka RSP USP IG, tasked the 12 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops with carrying out urgent repair work on the affected bund.

The restoration effort was conducted under the close supervision of the 56 Infantry Division Commander, Major General S A U A Solangaarachchi RSP ndc psc, and with the guidance of the Commander, Security Force Headquarters Wanni, Major General KMPSB Kulathunga RSP ndc psc.

A team of 03 x 40 troops from 12 (V) VIR was promptly deployed to reinforce the damaged section using sandbags, preventing a potential overflow that could have caused flooding in the surrounding area. The operation was carried out at Grid Reference 538957
