A seven-member delegation from the United Nations Mobile Training Team (UN MTT), comprising specialists from the Air Force of the German Bundeswehr arrived in Sri Lanka on 26 November 2025 to conduct a comprehensive feasibility assessment for delivering Advanced Field Training to Sri Lankan Army personnel deployed on United Nations peace support operations.
The proposed training focuses on hostile-environment foot patrols and vehicle convoy operations, riot control techniques, and enhanced capabilities in the detection, identification of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and Explosive Ordnance.
Preliminary discussions were held at Headquarters of Sri Lanka Army on 27 November 2025, attended by the Commandant of the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering Colonel JACS Jagoda psc, alongside senior Army officials and the German Delegation.
After holding preliminary discussions with senior officials at Sri Lanka Army Headquarters, the delegation, undertook an in-depth field visit to the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering (SLSME) at Embilipitiya on 28 November 2025. During the field visit, the delegation visited the lecture halls, smart classroom facilities, the EOD Equipment Yard and Field Engineer Model Room, as well as the Field Training areas of the SLSME where practical exercises are conducted.
Subsequently, a detailed discussion was held in the school’s conference hall. The exchange focused on the methodology and sequencing of training activities for the upcoming joint field training programme to be conducted in Sri Lanka, the integration and use of modern technological equipment, and the international methods, standards, and best practices that should be applied in delivering such specialized training.
The seven-member delegation was led by Major Max Erdmann of the German Air Force (Bundeswehr), while the Military School of Engineering was represented by the Chief Instructor and the Adjutant.
