The General Officer Commanding of the 58 Infantry Division and Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch, Major General A M A Abeyawardana WWV RWP RSP ndc, paid a welfare visit to Mihindu Seth Medura, Aththidiya, on 05 February 2026, with the objective of inquiring into the wellbeing of officers and soldiers of the Gemunu Watch Regiment undergoing recuperation and rehabilitation at the facility.
The visit was undertaken as a mark of care, appreciation, and regimental solidarity towards the gallant war heroes of the Gemunu Watch who sustained injuries while performing their duties in the service of the nation. It reflected the Regiment’s enduring commitment to safeguarding the welfare, morale, and dignity of its members.
During the visit, the Colonel of the Regiment engaged in cordial interactions with the resident officers and soldiers, personally inquiring into their health conditions, progress of rehabilitation, and welfare requirements. He also extended words of encouragement and moral support, uplifting the spirits of the recovering personnel and reaffirming the Regiment’s continued and unwavering support.
As a further gesture of goodwill, gift packs and essential items were distributed among the recovering officers and soldiers, as well as to the rehabilitation facility, with the intention of enhancing the quality of care and recovery services provided.
The visit concluded on a positive and uplifting note, further strengthening morale and reinforcing the strong bond between the Regiment and its recovering war heroes. Major General K P P Karunanayaka, along with senior officers and officers of the Gemunu Watch Regiment, were also present, signifying the collective responsibility and steadfast commitment of the Regiment towards the welfare and wellbeing of its members.
