Under the initiative of the President of the Seva Vanitha Branch of the Gemunu Watch, Mrs. Shihani Abeywardhana, and the guidance and supervision of the General Officer Commanding of the 58 Infantry Division and the Colonel of the Regiment The Gemunu Watch Major General AMA Abeywardhana WWV RWP RSP ndc a Book Donation Programme was successfully conducted on 31 January 2026 at the Regimental Headquarters of the Gemunu Watch.
This welfare programme was organized to support the education of children of soldiers and civil employees of the Gemunu Watch. A total of 1,072 Students were selected from each battalion of the Gemunu Watch. Book packs for the year 2026 were distributed according to the students’ respective grades. The total value of the book packs distributed during the programme was 2.5 Million.
During the event, Dry Ration packs allocated by the Army Seva Vanitha Branch for the soldiers who affected from the Ditwah Cyclone were also symbolically handed over to the respective Commanding Officers of the Battalions of the Gemunu Watch.
The programme was attended by The General Officer Commanding of the 58 Infantry Division and The Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch, The President and the members of the Seva Vanitha Branch of the Gemunu Watch, Senior Officers, Officers, Other ranks, Students, and their parents.
This meaningful initiative reflects the Gemunu Watch Regiments' continued commitment to the welfare and educational development of its personnel and their families.
