The Gemunu Watch Regimental Centre gracefully hosted the farewell ceremony for Brigadier WDM Kumarasinghe RSP on 22 November 2025, marking a memorable and dignified conclusion to his esteemed military career.
The day’s proceedings commenced with a warm reception for the Chief Guest, followed by an impressive Guard Turnout inspection at the entrance. Thereafter, a solemn commemoration ceremony at the Monument for Fallen War Heroes, where tribute was paid to the brave Highlanders who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
A proud highlight of the event was the Ceremonial Parade of Honour, held at the Regimental Parade Square. The parade showcased the discipline, pride, and unwavering spirit of the Gemunu Watch. To preserve the significance of this special day, group photographs were taken, capturing the honour and camaraderie shared among the troops.
As the day progressed, a farewell dinner was held at the Officers' Mess in appreciation of the outgoing senior officer. Also, the Regimental Centre extended its invitation to Brigadier B.N. Madanayake (Rtd) RWP RSP, who recently retired, to join with this distinguished gathering.
Adding heartfelt value to the ceremony, Major General AMA Abeywardana WWV RWP RSP ndc, General Officer Commanding of the 58 Infantry Division and Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch, delivered the customary farewell speech. He extended profound gratitude for the exemplary service rendered and recalled the notable milestones achieved during Brigadier Mohan Kumarasinghe’s and Brigadier Bathiya Madanayake’s careers. A specially prepared tribute video further highlighted there contributions and accomplishments.
All Officers and Other Ranks of the Gemunu Watch united in extending their sincere appreciation to the outgoing Highlanders for their unwavering commitment, loyalty, and dedication to the Regiment. Warm wishes were offered for a future filled with good health, prosperity, peace, and continued success.
The farewell ceremony truly reflected the honour, respect, and brotherhood that define the proud legacy of the Gemunu Watch.
