ANOTHER COMMUNITY MISSION BY THE PROUD 12TH BATTALION, THE GEMUNU WATCH

Laptop and Stationery Distribution Programme for School children in Damminna Maha Vidyalaya and Nidanwala Primary School.

A significant community welfare programme was held on 07 November 2025 at the Nidanwala Primary School Auditorium, where essential stationery items and laptops were distributed to students of Nidanwala Primary School and Damminna Maha Vidyalaya - two schools serving the rural community in the Damminna area under the Dimbulagala Divisional Secretariat.

This initiative was launched under the conceptual guidance of Major General PKWWMJSBW Pallekumbura RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces – East, who identified the educational needs of children in the region. The programme was organized under the supervision of Major General GPP Kulathilaka ndc, General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division, and successfully executed through the exceptional coordination and dedication of Brigadier SDKWMMI Weliwita RWP RSP USP psc, Commander, 231 Infantry Brigade.

Showcasing their unwavering commitment to national service and community upliftment, Major ACW Gunasekara RSP, Commanding Officer of the 12th Battalion, The Gemunu Watch, together with his troops, played a vital role in ensuring the smooth and dignified conduct of the event.

The programme was generously funded by CEVA Logistics Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, whose Director Mr. Ranil Polonowita and company members contributed financially towards laptops and stationery as part of their ongoing social responsibility initiatives to support low-income schoolchildren.

Adding colour and cultural richness to the ceremony, students from both Nidanwala Primary School and Damminna Maha Vidyalaya performed traditional dances, creating a festive and meaningful atmosphere.

The event was graced by Major General PKWWMJSBW Pallekumbura, Commander, Security Forces – East, as the Chief Guest. Senior Officers, Officers, and troops of the 12th Battalion, The Gemunu Watch, along with other distinguished guests, took part in this proud moment of community service - yet another testament to the regiment’s dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to national development.
