On November 7, 2024, the Regimental Centre of the Gemunu Watch hosted the fourth session of its annual Officers' Training Day. This event is designed to enhance the knowledge and professionalism of officers across both military and non-military subjects-an essential endeavor in today’s evolving security environment.
The training day commenced with a warm welcome from Lieutenant Colonel UKDLK Udugama RWP RSP USP, General Staff Officer 1 at the Regimental Centre. He highlighted the significance of the event and its value in the regimental calendar, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and development within the ranks of the Gemunu Watch.
The schedule for the day was meticulously crafted to ensure a comprehensive learning experience. It began with morning physical training, a vital component that reinforces fitness and teamwork among officers. Subsequently, the program featured two notable lectures. “Consumer Security” Presented by Mr. Upali Wijeweera, Awareness Officer at the Consumer Affairs Authority of Sri Lanka. Mr. Wijeweera provided insights into the critical aspects of consumer rights and protection, a topic increasingly relevant in contemporary society. Then as second session a lecture about “ Israel-Palestine Conflict: Past, Present, and Futur” by Dr. Asantha Senevirathna, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Strategic Studies, Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies at KDU, He delivered a comprehensive analysis of this historical conflict, encouraging officers to think strategically about international relations and its implications on national security.
The day's highlight was a special session at the Diner’s Club, gracefully led by Major General KHK Kottawaththa (Rtd) RWP RSP USP, who was the guest speaker. His lecture on the "Importance of Improving Your Soft Skills" resonated with the attendees, providing invaluable guidance on personal development that is essential for leadership in both military and civilian contexts. Brigadier HCL Galappathti RSP USP, Centre Commandant of the Regimental Centre, welcomed Major General Kottawaththa and underscored the significance of soft skills in enhancing the overall effectiveness of officers.
The success of the Officers’ Training Day is reflective of the fervent guidance and support from Major General SWB Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc, the Director General of Infantry and Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch.
