Major General W.B.J.K Wimalaratne RWP RSP of the Gemunu Watch assumed duties as the 34th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 51 Infantry Division in Kopay on Monday (06 May 2024).
The newly appointed GOC of the 51 Infantry Division was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers on his arrival and according him a Guard Turnout and Guard of Honour by the troops of 17th Battalion the Gemunu Watch.
Afterwards, the new GOC was invited to the office and placed his signature in an official document to mark the assumption of his duties, amidst 'Seth Pirith' chanting of the Maha Sanga. Subsequently, GOC was invited to plant a ‘Mango Sapling’ in the Headquarters premises.
Later on, the new GOC addressed all the Officers and Other Ranks serving under the 51 Infantry Division and briefed his plan of action in the days to come.
Brigade Commanders, Staff Officers of the Headquarters - 51 Infantry Division, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Rankers were present during the day's event.
