On 1 March 2025, disaster relief troops from the Non-Perial detachment of the Gemunu Watch showcased extraordinary courage and commitment as they conducted a life-saving operation in Hirikatu Oya. With rising water levels trapping 35 civilians, the troops sprang into action, demonstrating their remarkable dedication to the community.
In recognition of their valiant efforts, Major General K.P.A Jayasekara (Retd) WWV RSP VSV USP ndc psc, the Deputy Minister of Defence, honored these brave rescuers on 16 March 2025, at the Regimental Centre the Gemunu Watch.
The Deputy Minister commended their swift and heroic response in the face of adversity, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and bravery in such critical situations.
