Puthukkudiyiruppu, Mullaitivu- In the aftermath of the 'Ditta' cyclone, which severely impacted several villages in the Pudukuddirruppu area, troops of the 6th Battalion The Gemunu Watch (6 GW) launched a comprehensive relief and community-support operation to assist affected families.
Under the guidance and supervision of the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel GGN Wijesooriya RSP USP psc, troops were swiftly deployed to provide essential humanitarian assistance. As an immediate measure, soldiers distributed dry ration packs to 100 families whose livelihoods were disrupted in the villages of Wasanthipuram, Irattamadu, and Sudhandipuram due to the cyclone’s heavy winds and rainfall.
Social Media activits and other organizations: Vini productions, Siril Ayya, Ratta, Konara Vlog , Lions Club and Kandy Tours provided assistance to distribut dry ration packs that they recieved with the support of community.
In addition to emergency relief, 6 GW troops also committed to provide continuous community support for cleaning and restoring dilapidated and contaminated wells to ensure availability of safe drinking water facility, other than that assisting in the cleanup of the local hospital, allowing medical services to resume smoothly and supporting the clearing of preschools and surrounding public areas to ensure safety for children and resident.
These efforts reflect the Sri Lanka Army’s ongoing commitment to safeguard the well-being of civilians during natural disasters. The proactive engagement of 6 GW troops were widely appreciated by community members, who expressed gratitude for the timely intervention and sustained assistance during this challenging period.
